Magpie , “… a socially conscious art collective” was established in 1998 by Designer Scott B. Hart and Social Entrepreneur - Ashoka Fellow, Shane A. Petzer.
Fine Artist, Sean Daniel and Administrator, Richard Panaino joined in 2006 as Magpie expanded and the Collective relocated from Cape Town to the Barrydale Studio where we are now based.
We believe the work we do links art and design with meaningful commercial and social entrepreneurism. Our creations we are produced from a broad range of medium and often utilise found or recycled elements.
In addition to the Studio creations, we undertake commissions and installations as well as participate in exhibitions. Magpie also produces a range of exciting craft-project-linked products.
The Rooi Doppies Project is our social action framework. Through this conceptual project we link ourselves as a collective to our surrounding community by engagement with local community income generation projects, crafters and civil society endeavours.
From design, through to execution we believe our work reflects our philosophy and innovative approach.
